Don't Toss the Glass: The Helpful Guide to Reusing Your Candle Jars
How to Clean and Repurpose Your Soy Candle Jars
Don't throw away your beautiful glass candle jars once the wax runs out! The Artisan Soy Candles are poured into high-quality glass jars with screw-on lids, specifically designed to be reused. Because soy wax is completely water-soluble and biodegradable, cleaning your jar is incredibly easy.
Follow this simple guide to safely remove residual wax and give your jar a second life.
Safety Guidelines First
- Never microwaving glass jars with metal wick tabs inside.
- Avoid pouring liquid wax down your sink drain to prevent clogs.
- Place jars on a towel or heat-safe surface before adding hot water.
- Let glass cool completely before handling to prevent burns or cracks.
- Never pour boiling water into freezing cold glass jars.
Step-by-Step Cleaning Guide
1. Melt and Float the Wax
Place your used jar on a heat-safe surface. Carefully pour boiling water into the jar, leaving about an inch of space at the top. The hot water will instantly melt the leftover soy wax, causing it to separate from the glass and float to the surface.
2. Let It Cool and Harden
Leave the jar undisturbed until the water cools down to room temperature. As the water cools, the melted soy wax at the top will solidify into a hard, floating disc.
3. Remove the Wax Disc
Once the wax is completely hard, gently press down on one side of the disc using a spoon or butter knife. The disc will tilt and pop loose. Lift the wax disc out of the jar and discard it in the trash. Pour the remaining water down the drain.
4. Wash and Remove Residue
Wash the inside of the jar with warm, soapy water and a sponge to remove any remaining oily film. If the wick tab is still stuck to the bottom, gently pry it loose with a blunt knife.
5. Clean Off the Label Sticky Glue
To remove the label and any sticky adhesive, soak a cotton ball or cloth in rubbing alcohol. Wipe the sticky spots firmly until the glue dissolves. Wash the exterior one last time, dry completely, and screw the lid back on!
